Sustainability and aviation seemingly do not go hand in hand. While airlines declare that they try their best to be environmentally friendly, sustainable and using other keywords to depict their efforts of reducing pollution, there are no ways of flying an emissions-free flight as of yet. However, a readily available solution is already here: Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). However, SAF has its issues, including its high price and relatively low availability of supply compared to fossil fuel solutions, including Kerosene. In an interview with Thorsten Lange, the Executive Vice President of Renewable Aviation at Neste, we discuss the current and future situation of SAFs, including what kind of impact the current COVID-19 crisis has had on the sustainability front. Is it all doom and gloom for SAF or is the future bright?
