Air Serbia to resume twice-stopped Belgrade-Rome route

Air Serbia announced resuming the direct flights from Belgrade to Rome, Italy starting on April 30, 2021. The flag carrier of the country plans to operate the route regularly two times a week.

On March 23, 2021, Air Serbia announced the recommence of direct operations from its hub in Belgrade Airport (BEG) to Rome-Fiumicino International Airport (FCO). According to the summer schedule, the airline aims to fly the resumed route two times per week every Monday and Friday with the prospects to increase the frequency to three-weekly operations starting from June 13, 2021, depending on the epidemiological situation and the travel restriction policies in both countries.

According to the airline’s statement, Air Serbia will be the only carrier to connect both countries while offering up to 864 seats per week in both directions during the summer season of 2021.

“We are glad to re-establish the air link to Italy and add another destination to our current network. We are committed to re-establishing our network whenever the epidemiological situation and consequent travel restriction allow us to do so and we aim to offer wider scale connectivity to Serbia and the entire region,“ Jiri Marek, the General Manager for Commercial and Strategy at Air Serbia, said.

“Italy represents a very important market for us, not only because it is traditionally interesting to our passengers, but also because of its importance in terms of economic cooperation and trade,” he added.

In the summer season 2021, the airline also plans to offer connection flights from Rome through Belgrade, to Athens, Bucharest, Dubrovnik, Istanbul, New York, Podgorica, Sarajevo, Skopje, Sofia, Thessaloniki, Split, Tivat, and Tirana.

“Passengers will also have access to good connections to Rome, through Belgrade, from Athens, Bucharest, Dubrovnik, Istanbul, London, Podgorica, Sarajevo, Skopje, Sofia, Thessaloniki, Tirana, and Split,” the flag carrier of Serbia announced in the statement.

Air Serbia temporarily stopped the direct operations between Belgrade and Rome in March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic-related air travel restrictions. The air carrier attempted to resume the route in July 2020, but two weeks later discontinued the operations repeatedly due to the worsened epidemiological situation in Europe at the time.
